We didn’t set out to start a cleaning brand. We were just two siblings sharing a flat, sharing bills, and getting tired of replacing the same cheap sponge every two weeks.
When I moved abroad to study and moved in with my brother, we realized we were spending way too much on sponges that had no intention of lasting. They’d smell by day five, fall apart by day ten, and end up back on the shopping list by day fourteen.
We tried the "eco-friendly" alternatives. We bought four different natural brands, and we were disappointed four times. They still smelled, the layers separated, and our kitchen was not ready for unexpected parent visits. That’s when my brother said: "There’s a gap in the market here."
So we built GOBUKA (from the Russian word Губка, meaning sponge). It all started in a flat with a kitchen that smelled like it had given up—and two siblings who hadn't. Why a russian word? Because the idea was born there.
